Using Biodiesel Since: The dark ages
Why I use Biodiesel: "There were many factors in my switching to biodiesel. There was and is the war in Iraq - enough said. There was and is the fact that the fuel was readily available where I lived, much cleaner than anything else out there, and only slightly more expensive (conveniently, since I now see biodiesel as a superior motor fuel). There's the fact that it is better for my engine, that biodiesel comes from a local/regional economy that I work to support otherwise, and that it's renewable. I learned also that biodiesel was safe to store, biodegrades within a month, and isn't toxic. I learned about biodiesel's life cycle analysis. I saw gas prices climbing and saw biodiesel staying priced pretty consistently throughout California. After awhile, I looked at my aging gasoline truck and realized that since it was about time to sell it. I really had no excuse for not buying a diesel next time. I needed a truck for variety of reasons. Diesels are rather plentiful. What excuse did I have not to buy a diesel?
I learned pretty quickly how to manage blends in cold weather and how to change my fuel filter after the biodiesel cleaned out my gas tank and fuel lines. (No big deal, these.) I learned that my truck is quieter depending on the blend of biodeisel - on B100, it's significantly quieter. I learned that the smell is radically improved, and I swear that I can see fewer tailpipe emissions with the naked eye.
I ran out of excuses. There is no other motor fuel as available right now that is better than biodiesel. I wonder what others' excuses are."
